FIA Activity Report

Design and development of the first Activity Report website for the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).

With the objective of moving away from PDFs and turning annual reports into a more engaging web-first format, the FIA needed a bespoke website for their 2023 Activity Report, to be reused and expanded for the following years.

Taking cues from previous reports while ensuring strict adherence to FIA Brand Identity Guidelines and web best practices, the design process began with establishing a clear type system. This system defined the hierarchy of headings and structured interactive elements such as buttons, navigation menus, and content components like block quotes.

The report content is centered around three key themes — Knowledge, EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion), and Innovation — highlighting the achievements of various commissions and committees across the FIA’s two main divisions: Mobility and Sport.

The site features a two-level menu system for intuitive navigation. In longer sections, secondary navigation is provided to help users explore different topics efficiently. A parent page template archives all subpages for ease of access, while a suggested next-page component at the bottom of each page guides users through the reading order.

The design prioritizes flexibility and reusability, ensuring components can be easily adapted for future reports. A colour-themed system was implemented, aligning with FIA’s brand colours. Accessibility was a key consideration, with contrast-tested colour combinations and keyboard-accessible interactive elements to meet web accessibility standards.

Following the publication of the 2023 Activity Report in FIA, the website and component design were repurposed for the FIA’s first Sustainability and D&I Report.
